Wallpaper

In Wallpaper, two elderly Holocaust survivors return to Poland in search of homes and memories erased by war, displacement, and time. Anton hopes to rediscover the apartment of his childhood, only to realize that memory cannot survive through architecture alone. Mirjam, traveling with her grandson Tristan, walks through a vanished Jewish village that now exists only in her mind. As past and present visually merge, the script becomes a haunting meditation on inherited trauma, survival, and the fragility of cultural memory. Deeply human and emotionally restrained, Wallpaperexplores how history lives on inside those who remember.

Tomasz Frymorgen, Writer/Director

Tomasz Frymorgen draws from a childhood shaped by stories of communist-era Poland and the haunting realization that entire worlds — both socialist Poland and prewar Jewish Poland — had vanished from physical memory. Raised in the UK within a Polish household, Frymorgen became fascinated by the tension between inherited memory and modern reality, especially as synagogues, cemeteries, and traces of Jewish life slowly resurfaced after the fall of communism. That personal excavation informs Wallpaper, a deeply emotional story about survivors confronting landscapes that no longer match their memories. Frymorgen’s work across fiction and documentary consistently explores identity, displacement, memory, and the lingering psychological echoes of history.
